Manapouri power station is reached by driving deep below the lake. The public can take a coach tour. It's an amazing feat to have constructed this facility so deep underground and I liked that fact that you could clearly see this was hewn from solid rock by the rock inserts in the room's walls. The room was lit by a series of electric lights which to my mind struggled to illuminate.
